Listened to it again today. One thing that really helped me back in the day was the fact that my host family had a young son, maybe 8 years old who spoke at a mile a minute. I couldn’t understand him at all at first. But I tried and tried and eventually his speech clicked and I could understand him too. Having a stretch opportunity to ‘drink from a firehose’ can also be a great learning opportunity.
